Secretary Pompeo said “while these might seem like local matters to some, the cumulative effect is of enormous national importance and international significance.”

And “The China competition is happening. It’s happening in your states, and it’s a competition that goes to the very basic freedoms that every one of us values.”

Pompeo introduced “very” and “every” in a single sentence.  He is very angry.

Chinese move to threaten the states of the U.S. not to congratulation the re-election of Tsai Ing-wen, the President of Taiwan, is a gruff interference of domestic issues of other countries.

Chinese threat has deepened, from the level of the federal government to local high schools, which indicates that Beijing may rule the U.S. case by case.

Beijing has done similar things, bypassing the central government and contacting the local government directly, to Taiwan.

美國國務卿龐皮歐（Mike Pompeo）週六（2月8日）向美國各州州長提出警告，提醒當地政府與中國「交往」務必小心謹慎，並指出中國正利用美國的開放來打入侵美國。龐皮歐指出，密西西比州長去年曾收到中國威脅，稱他若造訪台灣，中國就會撤出密西西比州的投資。龐皮歐更指出，蔡英文總統上月勝選後，中國外交官曾發信要求美國各州政府請勿祝賀蔡英文總統連任。

綜合外媒報導，龐皮歐在華府對全國州長協會（National Governors Association）演說時警告全美州長，指出中國勢力已滲透到各個層級，從地方政府、州政府到聯邦政府，並提醒他們與中國交往務必「小心謹慎」，指出大部分會場的人士，應該都曾受到中國的遊說。

龐皮歐在演說時以台灣受打壓為例，引用中國外交官的信件，指出中國外交官在上月蔡英文總統勝選後，曾要求美國各州政府請勿祝賀蔡英文總統連任。

此外，密西西比州州長去年曾收到中國威脅，稱若他到訪台灣，中國將會撤出他在密西西比的投資。中國也曾要求芝加哥一所高中的氣候會議主辦方撤銷對台灣代表的邀請。

龐皮歐說︰「中國對美國國務卿施壓是一回事，但對美國地方高中的校長施壓，那是另外一回事」。龐皮歐表示，中國的作法看起來只在地方層級，但累積起來的效應，將具有巨大的國家重要性及國際意涵。最後龐皮歐呼籲美國各州政府，請勿獨自與中國簽署牽涉國家利益的協議或是計畫，並指川普政府將加強與各州政府及地方政府的溝通，討論如何與中國往來。
