In 2014, Taiwan Government decided to defer Lungmen No.4 Nuclear Power Plant, during MYJ’s administration, after a mass protest.  
The fuel rods, which have purchased and imported became a problem.


It was President Obama’s vision to establish a non-nuclear world.  The US has negotiated with Japan to transport the materials of the weapon’s grade Plutonium-239 for 300 kgs as well as Uranium-235 for 205 kgs back to the US in 2014.  The actual transportation has begun.
Lungmen’s transportation of the fuel rods could be regarded as a part of this vision, not really for cost-savings.

Nuclear fuel has a close connection with the bomb.  
No fuel, no bomb; yet no fuel, no research as well.

核四第二批燃料棒 凌晨送抵基隆港準備運美    自由 20180905

因應民進黨推動2025非核家園，台電規劃3年分8批陸續將核四廠內1744束核燃料，運送至美國原廠保存、拆解再利用；今年7月4日凌晨首批80支燃料棒經由基隆港運送出境，台電今天凌晨1時許再運送第二批約120支燃料棒抵達基隆港，同樣將由基隆港運送出港，準備運回美國。

今凌晨第二批約120支核燃料棒運出核四廠，台電、原能會、警方、消防等單位開會共商多次，對運送核燃料棒嚴陣以待，轄區警分局為確保核燃料棒平穩送抵基隆港區，沿線封路交管，消防隊也派車在後戒備。

120支核燃料束今晨1時許運抵基隆港西19號碼頭，但因接運船隻尚未靠岸，待靠岸後，吊掛裝有燃料束的貨櫃上船，運送出境至美國原廠存放。
