illustration I drew above was based on FIR and ADIZ of Japan. The red lines represent ADIZ while the black lines
are FIR of ICAO regime.
Readers
could easily learn from the illustration that the two establishments are highly
co-related, though not 100% overlapping.
PLA’s
unilateral announcement of the creation of its own ADIZ on East China Sea, expanded
in fact Shanghai FIR under ICAO regime, at the cost of encroaching Naha and
Fukuoka Air Control Center. There will
be competition of jurisdiction in the air space between Shanghai and Naha,
which will endanger the safety of civil flights flying through the region in
the coming future.
We should
focus on that, besides regional security, and stop MYJ’s flattering moves
toward PLA.
