TAIWAN – CARTOGRAPHIC TREATMENT

Note: The following guidance does not represent a change in existing policy but is rather a compendium of existing policies and practices.  注意：以下指南不代表對現有政策的改變，而是對現有政策和實踐的總結說明。

As of 1979, the United States Government recognized the People's Republic of China as the sole legal government of China. It established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China and acknowledged the Chinese position that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China. The United States does not recognize Taiwan as a sovereign state.  1979年，美國政府承認中華人民共和國為中國的唯一合法政府。 它與中華人民共和國建交，認知中國只有一個中國、台灣是中國一部分的立場。 美國不承認台灣是一個主權國家。

On most U.S. Government maps that show sovereignty tints, Taiwan[1] is to be shown with the same color as China (see Figure 1). Exceptions can be made only when context requires that Taiwan be specifically singled out (see Figure 2).  在大多數顯示主權色彩的美國政府地圖上，台灣將以與中國相同的顏色顯示（見圖 1）。 只有當文脈要求特別指出台灣時例外（參見圖 2）。

As a geopolitical entity, Taiwan must be labeled using a type face distinct from and subordinate to a type face used for sovereign states such as China (see Figure 1), and also distinct from a type face used to label provinces or other administrative divisions. It must be labeled only “Taiwan" - do not use “Republic of China” or “Taiwan, Province of China.”  必須使用與中國等主權國家使用的字體不同，且從屬於該字體的字體來標記台灣（見圖 1），並且也不同於用於標記省或其他行政區劃的字體。 它必須僅標記為「台灣」 - 不要使用「中華民國」或「中國台灣省」。

The city of Taipei must not be symbolized as the capital of a sovereign state.  台北市不能被象徵為主權國家的首都。
