一如預期：台積電向美國商務部求援疫苗

TSMC asked Gina Raimondo, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, for help to acquire vaccines for Taiwan.  For unknown reasons, Taiwan is short of vaccines.  To get the vaccines, Taiwan desperately relies on donations: either from other countries, includes the U.S., Japan, Lithuania, or from the private sectors such as corporations, associations, charity organizations.

Despite the distress situation, the administration approves Terry Gou and TSMC to donate simultaneously.
People presume that TSMC is President Tsai’s tactic to curb Terry Gou from buying the vaccines from Shanghai Forsun, the Greater China dealer of BioNTech.  President Tsai is afraid of a scenario that becomes convincing: if Gou acquired the vaccines from Forsun reflects that Beijing is responsible for Taiwan’s health.
TSMC's asking for help signifies that it did not intend to do so before June 18th when President Liu of TSMC met with President Tsai at the Presidential Hall.  Since TSMC asked for help from the U.S., it might acquire vaccines from Pfizer.  It is still unclear what Gou’s move will become.

台積電向美國商務部長吉娜-雷蒙多請求幫助，為臺灣購買疫苗。 由於未知的原因，臺灣缺乏疫苗。 為了獲得疫苗，台灣絕望的拼命捐贈：要麼來自其他國家，包括美國、日本、立陶宛，要麼來自私人部門，如公司、協會、慈善組織。

美國商務部長雷蒙多（Gina Raimondo）昨天表示，台積電（2330）總裁在與她談話時，請求美國協助取得2019冠狀病毒疾病（COVID-19）疫苗。

雷蒙多接受路透社訪問時表示：「他請求幫忙，他已經和白宮高層官員談過。我們有所回應，我們當然想當個好夥伴，我認為確實有幫助。」

台灣2星期前表示，會放行鴻海（2317）與台積電自行洽購疫苗。

台積電對路透社發出聲明指出，他們認為「為台灣取得疫苗可替保護社區、確保正常運作盡一份力」。

路透社報導還說，台灣近期本土確診病例增加，儘管相對而言感染仍低，但當局正試著加快腳步取得已經訂購的疫苗。

台積電提出這項請求的同時，全球正面臨晶片荒，全世界的製造業生產都因此受到拖累，美國汽車業也不例外，而雷蒙多扮演的就是替美國企業解決晶片危機的重要角色。

儘管本土確診增加至今未對台灣晶片生產帶來太大衝擊，一些美國汽車業主管稍早卻私下告訴路透社，擔心疫情會衝擊到台灣對美國工廠的半導體輸出。
