After Sean Lien attended “SelectUSA 2013
Investment Summit”[1] held at DC on November
1st as a senior adviser of hedge fund, his father Lien Chan, former
vice President of Chinese Taipei, went to the same city to receive “Lifetime
Achievement Award in Cross-Strait Relations” presented by the US-China Policy
Foundation.
They are
politicians and extremely successful investors in China business. With massive economic supports and political connection
with Beijing, Lien is the only family that can threat MYJ’s authority.
No matter
what the story behind their trips, MYJ’s closest friend King Pu-tsong, Chinese
Taipei’s Representative to DC, felt no hesitatation to show his abhorrence toward Liens. revised at 2135

The
U.S.-China Policy Foundation will host its 18th annual Gala Dinner, China in
Washington, on November 12, 2013. The
gala, celebrating USCPF’s 18th anniversary, will be held at the historic
Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in downtown, Washington, DC, from 7pm to 9pm, with
the pre-dinner reception beginning at 6:30pm.
The
dinner will recognize the ongoing efforts of USCPF and others to improve
U.S-China relations. The Foundation is honored to welcome Dr. Lien Chan,
Honorary Chairman of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) as a guest of honor at this year’s gala. Dr. Lien held numerous political positions
in Taiwan, including Minister of Foreign Affairs (1988-1990), Governor of
Taiwan (1990-1993), Premier (1993-1997), Vice President (1996-2000), and
Chairman of the KMT (2000-2005). Upon retiring in 2005, Dr. Lien was given the
title of Honorary Chairman of the KMT. Throughout his career, Dr. Lien has sought to maintain a
stable and peaceful cross-strait relationship.
In April 2005, Dr. Lien made an ice-breaking trip to mainland China, where he met
with Hu Jintao, then the President and the Chairman of the Communist Party of
China (CPC). The
current cross-strait ties in the business and cultural spheres are a direct
result of Dr. Lien’s 2005 trip. Dr.
Lien, though retired, plays an important role in cross-strait relations. After his initial trip to the mainland, Dr. Lien continued to meet with Chinese leaders, both
in mainland China and at international meetings such as the 2008-2011 APEC
summits. Dr. Lien most recently visited mainland China in February 2013 to meet
with new CPC Chairman Xi Jinping. At
this year’s gala, USCPF will present Dr. Lien with
a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to cross-strait
relations.

政治人物和媒體的關係就像飛蛾與火：媒體跟著新聞嗅覺走，即使政治人物不刻意抬高自己的人氣和實力，鎂光燈還是會像撲火的飛蛾般衝上去。
連勝文上週以避險基金資深顧問的名義，出席華府的「選擇美國」投資高峰論壇，受到記者跟訪，連不知情的美國官員和商家都好奇打探這位「台商」是誰？連勝文在會場上不但對許多要求合影的台灣企業家有求必應，遇到記者詢問也是落落大方，即使他對是否參選台北市長語帶保留，但舉手投足間已有問鼎江湖的架式，身分不再只是連戰的兒子，甚至他不出席駐美代表金溥聰的晚宴都是話題。
駐美代表理論上是中立的外交官，實際上卻和國內政治緊密相扣。金溥聰是國王的人馬，連勝文卻公開批評馬英九處理王金平關說案如大明王朝。連勝文在華府呼籲不要對連惠心涉案見獵心喜，而向來不喜歡面對媒體的金溥聰，卻希望在攝影機前表示對檢察總長黃世銘的敬佩，兩人在不同場合的短短幾句話，讓藍營內部的政治紛爭在華府展露無遺。
連戰十一月十二日又要應美中政策基金會之邀前來華府接受頒獎，金溥聰月前還是透過媒體提醒才知道這件事，最後決定邀請連戰以「前副總統」身分到雙橡園晚宴。連戰曾在美敦促馬英九和北京進行政治談判，簽訂和平協議，甚至波及馬英九連任的選情，令馬不快。連這次獲獎又和他的「兩岸和平貢獻」有關，屆時會不會再掀波瀾，相信金溥聰不敢怠慢。
連戰父子與金溥聰的交手，讓我想起前駐美代表程建人和連戰的一段恩怨。連戰在二○○四年和宋楚瑜搭檔競選正副總統時，曾透過國親駐美代表袁健生和國民黨大老對程建人「曉以大義」，希望被陳水扁任命的程建人能公開宣布不同意扁的政策而辭職，並承諾當選後另有重用。程建人是出身藍營的幹練外交官，受到陳水扁倚重，連戰陣營當時評估，程建人「叛逃」將重擊阿扁的兩岸和台美關係，成為壓垮扁的最後一根稻草。被公投案搞得心力交瘁的程建人一度動搖，但最後還是拒絕連戰，續留扁陣營，連戰與程建人從此形同陌路。
美台關係牽動台灣的國家安全，而駐美代表在台灣政黨輪替後，也成為政黨角力的一顆重要棋子。馬英九因為處理王金平的關說案失策，提前成為跛鴨總統，台北政壇傳出金溥聰明年可望返國接任總統府秘書長，為一個可以讓馬英九全身而退的後馬時代佈局。眼前，訪問華府的藍營政治人物要如何與金溥聰互動，一舉一動都是戲！
