台灣地位未定 19500628蔣介石日記的「憂懼」

Reading Chiang Kai-shek's personal diary, it is confirmed that Chiang understood: at least until the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, Taiwan's status remained undetermined. This also means that the surrender ceremony on October 25, 1945, did not, as propaganda claimed, shift Taiwan's status from being a part of Japan to a province of China. Furthermore, neither the 1951 San Francisco Peace Treaty with Japan nor the 1952 Taipei Peace Treaty specified Taiwan's status. In other words, Taiwan's undetermined status (the status quo) has persisted to this day.

透過蔣介石親筆日記確認，蔣介石明瞭：至少到1950韓戰爆發台灣地位未定。這又表示1945年10月25日的受降典禮，並未如宣傳般改變台灣地位，從日本的一部份轉為中國的一省。至於直到1951的〈舊金山對日和約〉與1952的〈台北和約〉，也未有規定台灣地位。那就是：台灣地位的未定「狀態」（現狀）維持到直到今天了。

提要：杜鲁門聲明合作防衛台湾　考慮名部門人事之調整

昨晚杜鲁門宣佈用軍事支持南韓外并派第七艦隊同我們合作保衛台灣。這是國際上之重大變化。但在杜的聲明中包括有兩點是值得注意的：一、要我們停止對大陸上的海空軍活動；二、台灣的地位等將來再定。對於以上兩點應加反對並說明立場。一般人皆以「喜」的態度來接受美國人的要求，但我則以憂懼的態度來看這件事。總之，我們不應再以貪一時的「安」而上美國人的當，得到更大的禍。上、下午在總統府以及國防部都開會討論此事。我為此寫了一篇對各級政工人員之指示。

Summary: Truman Announces Cooperative Defense of Taiwan, Considers Personnel Adjustments in Key Departments

Last night, Truman announced military support for South Korea and the deployment of the Seventh Fleet to cooperate with us in defending Taiwan. This marks a significant international development. However, two points in Truman’s statement warrant attention: First, the demand that we cease air and naval operations against the mainland; Second, the assertion that Taiwan’s status will be determined in the future. We should oppose these two points and clarify our position. While the general public may accept the American demands with a sense of “joy,” I view this matter with apprehension and anxiety. In short, we must not fall for the Americans’ trap by greedily seeking temporary “security,” which could lead to greater calamity. Meetings were held this morning and afternoon at the Presidential Hall and the Ministry of National Defense to discuss this matter. I have written a directive to political personnel at all levels regarding this issue.
