On March 30, senior scholars Julian KUO (郭正亮), CHAO Chun-shan (趙春山), and YUANN Jeu-Jeng (苑舉正) commented on MYJ's visit to China and TSAI Ying-wen's transit through the US in the context of international politics on the program "Talk News" on TVBS.
During the program, Julian KUO became agitated over a Facebook post by the DPP which stated, "We are Taiwanese, not Chinese." The three scholars reiterated the statement made by Chang Chih-hao, spokesperson of the DPP, which said, "Taiwan is Taiwan. We are Taiwanese people. Who the hell are you to say we are Chinese?" (「台灣就是台灣，我們是台灣人，誰跟你是中國人。」)
The terms Chinese and Taiwanese have different meanings in various contexts. For Taiwanese people, the terms refer to citizenship based on the theory of the modern state, where Taiwanese and Chinese people are citizens of distinct jurisdictions and legal systems. On the other hand, for the Chinese, the terms refer to ethnicity.
The scholars were astonished by the statement made by the DPP spokesperson, which challenged Beijing's understanding and rejected Chinese nationalism. They fear that this may provoke Beijing to use force to prevent the dissolution of China, which is driven by Beijing's psychological map of one dominant state and one smaller state, both under Chinese nationalism. In contrast, Taipei's map prioritizes two equal sovereign states, followed by one Chinese ethnicity.
In conclusion, there are complex and nuanced differences between Chinese and Taiwanese identities in the context of international politics, highlighting the potential risks and challenges posed by these differing views.

今天馬英九前總統在中國喊出：「振興中華是兩岸中國人不可迴避的責任」，本黨在此呼籲馬英九前總統釐清現狀：我們是台灣人，不是中國人。

在台宏斷交後，馬前總統不顧民意反對堅持赴中，不僅中共接機層級降格，連行程安排和談話都在中共設定的框架中，更離譜的是，馬前總統昨天在參觀南京總統府時，甚至隱蔽「總統」二字，只敢自稱做過「這個」！

在中國受到各種不當對待，從接待降級、限制媒體不能使用「馬總統」稱謂、中國官媒只稱「馬先生」，到央視將馬前總統遮遮掩掩提的「中華民國」全都剪掉，更有中國媒體痛批馬前總統「刻薄寡恩、陽奉陰違」。

馬前總統在今日受訪時表示：必須要勇敢抵禦侵略，自立自強。但昨天馬前總統在中國參訪中山陵時，中國持續派遣20艘機艦擾台，很顯然地，破壞兩岸和平的對象就是中國。

面對中國持續侵擾台灣及此刻的國際局勢下，本黨呼籲堅持訪中的馬前總統，務必站在捍衛臺灣的國家主權及民主自由的立場，當面向習近平表達抗議，要求其立即停止對台灣的霸凌行為。
