負責調查去年美國國會遇襲案的聯邦眾議院特別委員會在最終報告的結論中建議，前總統特朗普在煽動暴亂後，應永遠不得競選公職。

法新社和中央社報導，最終報告多達845頁，包含一系列建議，目的是確保特朗普遭控於2020年敗選後戀棧權力而策畫的致命暴亂不會再次上演。

民主黨籍委員會主席湯普森（Bennie Thompson）昨晚公布報告時表示：「我們國家已經走偏了，才會允許一位失敗的總統藉由顛覆民主制度並煽動暴力，將自己變成勝利的暴君。」

最終報告敦促國會議員立法，禁止特朗普和其他「參與暴亂」的人擔任公職，「無論是聯邦政府或州政府，還是民政或軍事單位」。

特朗普已宣布計畫在2024年再次角逐白宮大位。

最終報告是國會調查人員努力18個月的成果，他們採訪1000多名證人以確認國會遇襲案主因，最後直接歸咎於特朗普。

這個委員會同時建議改革選舉相關法規、聯邦政府致力打擊極端主義團體，並將國會的總統大選認證程序定為與年度國情咨文（State of the Union）同等重要的「國家特殊安全事件」。

明年1月，眾議院控制權將落入共和黨手中，這份報告是這個委員會被解散前的最後行動。
