What is the Hwasong-15: the
most powerful missile in North Korea
North Korea has tested the Hwasong-15 an intercontinental missile that can
reach the American soil on paper. How
does the new Pyongyang carrier work? LETTERA43 20171129
North Korea has claimed the success of the
latest intercontinental missile test (Icbm), "the most powerful" so
far developed, capable of striking every corner of the United States: the Hwasong-15 is the last clutch that allows the leader
Kim Jong-un to proclaim the country as "nuclear power". For a more detailed analysis of features,
experts will need more time.
The rocket, according to the Kcna, has touched
an altitude of 4,475 km and the distance of 950 km after a 53-minute flight.
These values are in line with the preliminary estimates of US, South Korea and
Japan. According to some hypothesis, if the
launch angle was not large but of a standard type, the
final trajectory would be about 13,000 km. The carrier can
"mount a heavy and large nuclear head" by offering "Honda's
best-in-class tactical and technological advantages", another missile
tested twice in July with positive results.
The new missile is associated with a
"home-propelled 9-axis launch vehicle" that can now be produced
"in the amount that the country wants." The test confirmed
the "reliability" of the fuel-powered engine and the technologies set
for returning to the atmosphere, the Kcna said. Precisely on this last point, analysts have
expressed the heaviest doubts: even if the missile has so far been the longest
trajectory, the North seems to be still weak on
technology to return to the atmosphere, a key element for Icbm carriers.
