馬關條約，4月17，兩週內，與4月中旬

MYJ’s confidant King Pu-tsong, now new secretary of the National Security Council, is not only entrusted with the supreme power to command all security power from MYJ, but also the intelligence establishments in Taiwan.

What is more, he is a fully-trusted political advisor to Ma.  People here in Taiwan can see King the president behind the curtain, or simply put “the other president.”

King attended party and government meetings right after he assumed the office.  A normal government official is not supposed to do, but MYJ trusts King and King only.

King decided that the student protest should be resolved within two weeks, according to media.  Though the spokesperson of the Presidential Hall denied the report, yet serial moves were made immediately done quickly, including suing up to 205 students, proposing new monitoring establishment that students see as nothing more than a blank check, demanding the ruling KMT legislative members to pass the controversial agreement at all cost, and warning the Chair of parliament to repel the students, not to mention the gathering of scoundrels in an attempt to threaten the students.

Why two weeks?  The Asahi Shimbum might have given the answer.  It reported on March 30 that Zhang Zhi-jun, Minister of Taiwan Affair s Office of the State Council, PRC, is scheduled to visit Taiwan during mid-April.

Considering that the Treaty of Shimonoseki was concluded on April 17^th 120 years ago, which ceded Formosa and the Pescadores to Japan perpetually, the visit symbolizes Chinese recovery of Taiwan amid the rising of her economic and military power.
