Dear Sir / Madam,
I am writing to complain about the ‘Special Report’ written by Weike (威克) over the protest on China Trade deal in Taiwan
on 19th March 2014.
The report is biased towards one particular side. The main quotations
are from a ‘chief leader writer’, Xia Zhen (夏珍), who used to work for the China Times , and is well known for her China-friendly
political view.
Her quotations are taken from a very new and hardly known news website. The report mainly quotes Xiazhen’s point of
view, which is that just a minority of people are against the trade deal, accusing
that the protest students are Democratic Progressive Party (the opposition
party) supporters, and that students should respect democracy, even if they do
not like the trade agreement.
Xiazhen’s viewpoint was backed up by a quoted comment from the Facebook
account of a Taiwanese student who studies in UK. However, there was no viewpoint in favor of
the protest expressed or quoted.
Would the BBC use such shoddy journalism to explain British issues to
the world? This is the equivalent of,
for example, representing the debate on immigration solely through quotations
from Nigel Farage and a UKIP supporter’s Facebook
account.
Hoping you will look into this matter, and looking forward to your
response.
Your sincerely,
(your name)
