James F. Moriarty, the AIT Chairperson, met with Han Kuo-yu, the
Kaohsiung City mayor, on October 18.
Han’s scheduled visit to the U.S in November was changed reversely
before and after the closed-meeting.
The news reported that Moriarty presented Han five questions that the
U.S. scholars may ask in the meet weeks before Mayor Han's visit. That is a huge favor from AIT.
The five questions presented by Moriarty were:
Will Taiwan’s economy rely on the Chinese market further after Han’s
election as the President?
How could Han prove that he will do a better job than Tsai in terms of
the Cross-Strait relations?
Will Han conclude a cross-strait peace accord under Beijing’s pressure?
How does Han see CCP's interfere in the Presidential Campaign of 2020,
and how Ha is going to deal with that?
Will Han proceed to collaborate with the U.S. referring to the arms sales
policy to Taiwan?
Though the five questions were custom-made for Mayor Han; however, they
too reflected the core interests of the U.S toward Taiwan and the West Pacific
region.
They spanned from traditional to untraditional national securities issues
to the U.S.: the alliance, the military, the economy, the cyber warfare, etc.
Su Chi, former Secretary of National Security Council to former President
Ma and Mayor Han’s mentor, indicated that Mayor Han was not qualified to face
the questions.
More likely to me, Su might find that Mayor Han is closer to CCP than to
the U.S. The visit will expose that
defect and will cause a devastating consequence to Mayor Han and the
campaign.
U.S. scholars and experts do not only have brains but also have hard
evidence.
