《Reminiscences of Dr. Wu Kuo-Cheng》《吳國楨口述回憶》內有「蔣介石告訴我們，從1月份起，他每月要4200萬新台幣發餉給他的軍隊，而不是以前向陳誠要的1500萬。他說得很好聽，”我將給你全權當台灣省主席，不干預你省政府的任何事務，但我們撤到台灣的軍隊60萬人，每月得有4200萬元的餉，是我唯一要你做的事，是唯一的命令。”」也旁證黃金已經用完。(1950年1 月)

真正對「1949年黃金」有研究的人：

印第安那大學歷史系教授Dr. Nick Cullather在Mr. V.S. de Beausset家住3天，寫了2篇文章。

台灣與四鄰論文集 = Taiwan on the move : conference proceedings eng / 賴涵澤,于子橋主編中央大學歷史硏究所, 1998有 Nick Callather 的The J. G. White Company and the Industrialization of Taiwan, 1948- 1965這篇文章值得參考，在台大圖書館有此論文集。

Dr. Nick Cullather1996年冬季在Diplomatic History刊的『”Fuel for the Good Dragon”: The United States and Industrial Policy in Taiwan, 1950-1965.』

《吳國楨口述回憶》P171談「1950年7月的財政危機」依據印第安那大學歷史教授Nick Cullather的『“Fuel for the Good Dragon”: The United States and Industrial Policy in Taiwan, 1950-1965.』發表在1996 Winter《Diplomatic History》。內談到1951年3月台灣銀行將所僅存的黃金以飛機運至紐約出售，似乎吳的記憶有誤。Nick還提到美國聯邦準備局派Chester Morrill前往台灣協助穩定金融。有一群美國專家撐著吳國楨，而皆未在他的口述中出現，耐人尋味，讓吳能神氣活現地說他是神。
